Pensione Strasser and the moving services

The Pensione Strasser is an old hotel in a ‘side shoot’ off the Grand Canal in Venice. They recently decided to undertake an upgrading and remodeling job, also known as major renovations. I am the project manager. I found a great Venetian architect who drew the plans and had them passed. Then I found a great Venetian contractor to do the work. So far so good. Everything was going according to my schedule which promised the owners that they would be ready for occupation (at the new rates) at the beginning of November. Then came the problem - we had to move stuff around.

I hired a company of Venetian moving services to stand by and help. The moving services first job was to take the grand piano out, keep it covered for 3 days and move it back in. Then the moving services had to help with the dismantling of the old kitchen. After that the moving services had to assist with the removal and disposal of the old elevator. The last job for the moving services was the collection and disposal of all the rubble that had collected from the various demolition jobs that were done. At this point the moving services collapsed, physically and mentally. We finished 2 weeks late!
